Andy Duffy - director, arranger, composer, piano/keyboard/bass

Throughout his career as an educator, Andy has always maintained a parallel career as a professional musician sharing the stage with some of the best in a variety of styles, from jazz to pop, country to gospel, dance bands to rock & roll bands. In the late 1970's, Andy became involved in church music ministry and Christian musical theatre. "I realized then that using our gifts, whatever they may be, to glorify God, is among the highest forms of praise". In the late 1980's, Andy founded Springsong, a 12-voice contemporary Christian music group that was blessed to have played in many different churches and other venues during its twelve year history.

In 2006 he started Gracenote: "Friends who inspire me with their grace, faith and amazing talent." While Andy's first musical love has always been jazz, which is evident both in his arranging and his playing, his strong spiritual and musically eclectic influence on Gracenote always results in a diverse program enjoyable for any audience.

Andy also plays regularly with several other music groups mainly in the Ottawa area. With his wife Leona, he lives nine months a year in rural Kanata and three months a year below the frost line, usually in Florida.

Diane Coulterman – vocals

Growing up in Sudbury, Diane’s love of singing was nurtured through her involvement with an all female community choir called the Marian Singers. She credits the 10 years she sang with this group as providing her with a foundation to explore music as a form of ministry. She moved to Ottawa in 1980 and in addition to belonging to other choral groups and ensembles over the years, she ventured into the area of musical theatre. Diane has since performed with Galilee Proclaims, Savoy Society, Orpheus Musical Theatre, the Great Canadian Theatre Company and Upper Canada Playhouse.

In the 90’s Diane joined Andy to sing with Springsong. She loved the opportunity to be exposed to the wealth of Christian Contemporary Music, the challenge of singing diverse musical styles and the sheer enjoyment of sharing this experience with talented musicians and singers who would also become friends. She feels blessed for all of her past musical experiences and is grateful to have worked with some wonderful teachers who mentored her along the way. Now she believes she has come full circle and is thrilled to have renewed friendships and to be back working with Andy and singing with the ‘girls’ in Gracenote.

Allison Fagan, vocals

Allison began her music ministry as a 15 year old, when she had a profound experience with the Lord on a youth retreat weekend. She felt led to share her love of music as a teenager, guitar strapped over her shoulder, in her Christian community. Later as an adult , she led six ladies in their parish music ministry for twenty years.

Allison was a member of Springsong for several years, joyfully singing with her 3 brothers and sister, Angela, among others in the vocal group which was directed by Andy Duffy. Allison and Andy formed a duo in the 90‘s called 2A Crossing, performing jazz standards, but after several years, were called to return to Christian music. In 2004, the two recorded a CD “Fill My Cup” the title track being written by Allison. Upon reflection, Andy and Allison realized how much they missed harmony in the songs, so they invited three more vocalists to form a new ladies’quartet. The group, which eventually became Gracenote, provides much joy and laughter in Allison’s life, as well as a vital opportunity to sing of her of love of the Lord.

She is also a member in the Hallelujah Gospel Chorus with her daughter Emily, and during the Christmas season she is a strolling soprano with the Renaissance Carolers. She credits years of singing along with Aretha, Oleta and CeCe for her love of R & B, soul, and gospel.

A lifelong favourite pastime is harmonizing at the piano with her siblings at her parents’ home in Ottawa and more recently, singing Disney songs with her grandchildren . Her husband Terry is a loyal supporter of her music ministry, so in return, Allison makes him very nice dinners every night of the week. Music has blessed her life.

Lynn Lane - vocals

Lynn has been singing or playing music as long as she can remember, and she loves many different musical styles. But her heart lies in the joyful gospel, jazz and contemporary Christian sounds embraced by Gracenote.

By trade, Lynn produces trade shows and events; after work hours it is the delight of family, friends and music that fills her time. In earlier years, Lynn’s musical focus was Christian musical theatre, guitar and clarinet – taking her from leading music in church and retreat settings to traveling to Europe for a summer tour with the Ontario Youth Concert Band.

The last number of years has seen her focus on singing: first spending time with Ottawa’s Orpheus vocal chorus and then with Gracenote since its inception in 2005. One recent highlight was performing with the Toronto Mass Choir’s ‘Power Up! Choir’ as they sang with Gospel powerhouse Alvin Slaughter.

Lynn loves singing with Gracenote. “Getting together and sharing our faith, our struggles, our joys…that strengthens me. And then, strengthened, I feel I want to share with others my experience of this awesome God.”
